
IRVING, Texas (July 3, 2025) — Three ϳԹ graduates were recently
commissioned as military officers as part of their successful completion of the Reserve
Officer Training Corps (ROTC): Miguel Kelley, BA Math ’25, Santiago McMunn, BA History
’25 and Asher Ralphs, BS Biochemistry ’25. The three took part in a commissioning
ceremony recently held at the University of Texas at Dallas’ campus in Richardson,
Texas, along with several other students from area campuses.
“We congratulate our three excellent graduates who were recently commissioned as second
lieutenants,” says Matthias Vorwerk, PhD, Provost. “The ROTC program offers University
of Dallas students a pathway to serve their country, while benefiting from the rigorous
and formative education we offer. They are part of a long and storied ϳԹallas ROTC
tradition, which began 35 years ago. We look forward to the great things they will
achieve.”
“ROTC gave me so many amazing opportunities and experiences,” shares Second Lieutenant
Santiago McMunn. “I was able to make friendships all across the Dallas-Fort Worth
area and got to train with cadets across the country.”
Second Lieutenant Asher Ralphs expressed his great appreciation for all the benefits he received as an ROTC Army cadet in college and beyond. “After graduating from ϳԹallas, my plans are to go to medical school and be an Army doctor for many years after.”
“I really have nothing but the highest praise for everything Army ROTC taught me,”
adds Second Lieutenant Asher Ralphs. “If I could do everything over again, I would,
without a doubt, do Army ROTC again and try to recruit people into it.”

The ϳԹ collaborates with other universities to offer a Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) program, which allows students to compete for commissions as officers in the United States Army and Air Force. This program develops leadership skills and encourages service to the country. ROTC cadets receive scholarships to cover tuition, books, healthcare, room and board, and more. They are also guaranteed a minimum of four years of employment in diverse fields, including mid-level management positions in the military, following college graduation.
